LAMal health insurance in Switzerland

LAMal health insurance in Switzerland

Mandatory within 3 months of your arrival. We help you choose the best crate at the best price.

In Switzerland, basic health insurance (LAMal) is compulsory for all residents. You have 3 months after your arrival to join a health insurance fund, but coverage is retroactive to the day you registered with the municipality. The Swiss system gives you the choice between more than 50 health funds, with premiums which vary considerably depending on the canton, the deductible and the insurance model chosen.

Please note: if you do not choose within the deadline, your municipality will automatically assign you a fund, often with the highest deductible and without additional funds.

Preguntas frecuentes

What is the deadline for subscribing to LAMal?
You have 3 months from your arrival in Switzerland (date of registration in the municipality). Coverage is retroactive to the day of arrival. If you exceed this deadline, the municipality will automatically assign you to a fund, without the possibility of negotiating the conditions.
How does the deductible system work?
The deductible is the annual amount you pay out of pocket before insurance covers the costs. It ranges from CHF 300 (higher monthly premium) to CHF 2,500 (lower premium). Beyond the excess, you pay another 10% of the costs (share) up to a maximum of CHF 700 per year. We help you find the right balance.
Does LAMal cover dental care?
No, routine dental care is not covered by LAMal. Only treatments linked to a serious disease of the masticatory system are covered. We recommend taking out a dental supplement upon arrival, as health questionnaires can rule out pre-existing problems.
Can I change health insurer every year?
Yes, you can change basic health insurance (LAMal) each year, with notice by November 30 for a change on January 1. Now is the perfect time to compare premiums and optimize your coverage. Complementaries have different termination conditions.
